Design Consultation in Greater Montréal
A design consultation gives you honest answers before you commit real money — what's possible in your space, roughly what it will cost, and what the project will actually take. It's the conversation that saves you from paying for a full design that turns out to be unaffordable or impossible.
What you walk away with
A straight read on your project — with no obligation to continue: If you're still deciding how to deliver the project, our design-build vs. traditional guide lays out both routes, and our architect vs. designer guide explains when Quebec law requires an architect.
- A read on feasibility given your layout, structure, and site
- A preliminary budget range
- The permit and code realities flagged early
- A clear recommendation on whether and how to proceed
Where we do this work
We meet with clients planning projects across Greater Montréal. If you already have a location in mind, its area page is a useful read before the consultation.
The in-house difference
Costed, not aspirational
The person telling you what's possible is the person who'd have to build it. So the answer is costed, not aspirational — we weigh construction reality while we assess your idea, which means you get early budget clarity instead of a vision that collapses at bid time.
Frequently asked
Design Consultation — your questions, answered.
What happens during an initial design consultation?
We discuss your goals, scope and budget, review the space, and assess feasibility — what's possible given the layout, structure and site constraints. For commercial and retail clients we also flag Montréal permit and occupancy requirements and any borough-specific rules early. The aim is honest guidance on whether the project works, roughly what it involves, and the realistic path from idea to completed build.
Is the consultation free, and does the fee apply to the project?
Consultation practices vary across the industry: some firms offer a complimentary first meeting, others charge an hourly or fixed fee that's often credited toward the project if you proceed. Contact us to confirm how ours is structured. Either way, an early consultation is designed to catch feasibility and budget issues before you spend on full design, which typically saves money later.
Can you tell me whether my budget is realistic before I commit to a full design?
Yes — that's a core purpose of the consultation. Because we're a design-build firm, we weigh construction cost while assessing your idea, so we can give early budget clarity instead of designing something that turns out unaffordable at bid time. If the scope and budget don't align, we say so up front and suggest ways to adjust the scope, phasing or finishes to fit.
What should I bring to the first consultation?
Whatever you have: a floor plan or lease plan, photos of the space, your budget range and target date, and examples of spaces you like. None of it is required, but each helps the conversation get specific faster.
Is a consultation useful before we've signed a lease?
Yes, and it's often the best time. Before signing, the consultation can flag items that affect cost or schedule, such as a change of use, a new occupancy certificate or work that may need an architect, while you can still negotiate or walk away.
What happens after the consultation?
You leave with a clearer picture of what's possible, what drives cost, and the next steps. If you want to move forward, the next step is a proposal for the design phase; whether to go ahead is entirely your decision.
