Custom Millwork & Built-In Solutions in Greater Montréal

Custom millwork is built to a room, not adapted to it — reception desks, cabinetry, feature walls, and built-ins fabricated to your exact dimensions, materials, and detailing rather than pulled off a shelf. The work lives and dies on two things: how it's fabricated and how early it's ordered.

Fabrication and lead times drive the schedule

Custom millwork runs several weeks from approved shop drawings through fabrication to install, and material and hardware lead times can stretch that. Shop drawings have to be approved before fabrication starts, so it sits on the critical path more often than clients expect. We confirm the schedule early and time delivery to the construction sequence, so finished pieces aren't sitting on a dusty site — or arriving after the trades who need to work around them. In a design-build project, millwork is drawn alongside the rest of the design, so shop drawings can start earlier; our design-build vs. traditional guide explains how that overlap works.

What we make

  • Reception desks and service counters
  • Cabinetry, storage, and shelving
  • Retail displays and fixtures
  • Feature walls and architectural joinery
  • Shop drawings, fabrication, and installation

How it's priced

Pricing is generally quoted per linear foot and moves with the materials, finishes, hardware, and complexity you choose — custom costs more than stock, but it's built to last decades rather than years. We price the millwork against your finish level and the drawings, so the number reflects the actual piece, not a catalogue average. (What it's built from — plywood or MDF cores, veneer, laminate, solid surface, or stone — is covered in the FAQ below.)

Where we do this work

Our millwork goes into commercial projects across Greater Montréal; the area pages cover how projects run in each part of the region.

The in-house difference

Detailed by the person who specified the space

The millwork is detailed by someone who specified the room it goes into — so it's designed to fit the space, not adapted to it afterward. Dimensions come from the actual drawings, reveals line up with the architecture, and the piece resolves against the walls, services, and finishes it has to meet, because the same team drew all of them.

Frequently asked

Custom Millwork — your questions, answered.

What is custom millwork and how is it different from stock cabinetry?

Custom millwork is joinery built to a project's exact specifications — reception desks, cabinetry, feature walls, and built-ins made to fit the space, materials, and design. Stock cabinetry comes in fixed sizes and finishes off the shelf. Custom work uses filler-free dimensions, chosen materials, and detailing that stock cannot match, which suits branded retail, commercial, and one-of-a-kind residential spaces in Greater Montréal.

How long does custom millwork take to build and install?

Custom millwork typically runs several weeks from approved shop drawings through fabrication to install — longer than the few weeks for stock cabinets. Timelines depend on scope, material and hardware lead times, and finishing. Shop drawings must be approved before fabrication starts, so we confirm the schedule early and coordinate delivery with the rest of the construction to avoid delays on site.

What materials are used for custom millwork and how is it priced?

Case bodies are usually plywood or MDF, surfaced with wood veneer, high-pressure laminate, solid surface, or stone depending on use and budget. Exposed edges are banded or given a solid-wood edge. Pricing is generally quoted per linear foot and varies widely with materials, finishes, hardware, and complexity — custom costs more than stock but is built to last decades.

Can new millwork match our existing finishes?

Usually, yes. Species, stain, laminate and hardware can be matched to what's already in the space, and samples are approved before fabrication so the match is confirmed rather than assumed. Some older or discontinued finishes can only be approximated.

When is millwork installed during a fit-out?

Near the end, once walls are painted and most flooring is down, so finished pieces aren't damaged by other trades. Because it's fabricated off site in the meantime, its timing is coordinated with the rest of the schedule from the start.

Does commercial millwork have to meet code requirements?

It can. Reception and service counters may need an accessible section, and materials used in exits or corridors can be subject to fire-performance requirements. These are checked during design so the millwork is permit-ready rather than adjusted after the fact.
